We stopped by Downtown Disney District recently to get a look at the demolition of Uva Bar & Café as work begins on its replacement.

Construction walls surround the demolition site with advertisements for the new Mexican restaurant Paseo and Centrico from Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán. A quote from Gaytán on a work site wall states:

There’s a México that very few in other parts of the world know. It is my purpose to share it with them through my food.

The umbrellas that were outside the entrance have finally been removed.

Looking into the second-story construction, you can see a wall with “SAVE WALL” spray painted on. This making demolition crews aware that the wall needs to stay, while others are being torn down.

Looking down into the construction zone you can see an excavator and two large industrial dumpsters.

The demolition of Uva Bar & Café is not the only change happening in Downtown Disney District right now. New Jazz Kitchen signage has been installed, Sprinkles Cupcakes closed permanently last month, some of the construction fencing surrounding the Monorail Station has been removed, and more.

The Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort is currently undergoing a transformation which includes several new shops and restaurants on the way. The new spaces set to be constructed are inspired by the mid-century space age look which was incredibly popular in California during the 1950s and 60s.

We’ve heard about plenty of these new outlets thus far, such as the award-winning Din Tai Fung, which serves Chinese food including bao, wontons, and more. Other outlets on the way include the beloved Porto’s Bakery, and a new permanent home for Earl of Sandwich. Currently, the sandwich shop sits in the former home of La Brea Bakery, which will be the site of Porto’s in the near future.

All of this work on the resort’s entertainment, shopping, and dining hub is merely one portion of larger plans connected to the DisneylandForward initiative — a multi-year public planning effort alongside the City of Anaheim. Its stated purpose is to update existing development approvals to promote future expansion, development, and investment for Disney and Anaheim.

Aside from the artistic concept above, not too many details are available for the future of Disneyland yet, though plans are well into development, and a public informational meeting was held just a few weeks ago.
