New ‘Haunted Mansion’ Movie
The new “Haunted Mansion” film follows a doctor, played by Rosario Dawson and her 9-year-old son (Chase Dillon) as they move into a haunted abode in New Orleans. Dawson’s character eventually calls in a priest, who is played by Owen Wilson, to exorcise the manor. A widowed scientist-turned-failed-paranormal expert (LaKeith Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Tiffany Haddish), and a historian (Danny DeVito) also offer some assistance. Jared Leto is set to play the Hatbox Ghost.
Madame Leota will be played by Jamie Lee Curtis, who described the film as “modern, fresh, old-fashioned, and scary, but not scary like a monster movie. It’s scary, like a Disney ride, and funny. If you go on that ride, there’s a lot of humor as well as the scary, ghost-y stuff.” Jared Leto is set to play the Hatbox Ghost.
Curtis, Wilson, and Stanfield recently worked the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland to promote the film.
Disney debuted the trailer for the upcoming movie at the D23 Expo 2022. Justin Simien, who directed the film, spoke about the project and detailed some of the cameos audiences can expect from Winona Ryder, Dan Levy, Hasan Minhaj, and more.
Later this month, Walt Disney Studios is expected to present a behind-the-scenes look at “Haunted Mansion” during Midsummer Scream — Halloween & Horror Convention in Long Beach, California.
The Haunted Mansion
This classic Disney attraction can be found in Disney Parks around the world. The first iteration opened at Disneyland in 1969. Two years later, it was an opening day attraction in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom. Then, in 1983, it became an opening day attraction at Tokyo Disneyland, too. Versions of the attraction can also be found at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland.
While traveling through the Haunted Mansion, guests encounter happy haunts and other ghostly characters including Madame Leota, the Bride, and the Hatbox Ghost.
The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom will be closing for refurbishment in August, possibly for the addition of the Hatbox Ghost.
