As suggested by a Tweet yesterday, Disney Lorcana was not ultimately released at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort today, August 18.
Starting on Friday, the game was released at specialty gaming stores, as well as the Disney Store in Times Square and at The Storybook Store in Disneyland Paris. A behind the scenes look at the game with its creative director and artists initially mentioned Lorcana would be released at Disney Parks on August 18.
Confused about whether or not the game would be released at the American parks today, some guests did show up looking for decks. A line formed outside World of Disney at Downtown Disney District in California (though this is not unusual, many of the guests indicated they were specifically waiting for Lorcana).
A Disney Lorcana poster was even installed on the back of a Disneyland Resort ticket booth.
We spoke to several Cast Members, including coordinators and managers, at stores on both coasts. Many were initially unsure about whether or not Disney Lorcana would be released in the parks today.
We confirmed that at least some Disneyland Resort stores did have Disney Lorcana products, but the retail team was unable to release them.
We overheard one manager at Walt Disney World tell employees that they don’t think Disney Lorcana will be available at the parks. But we think they were just guessing, and this isn’t necessarily true, as it has been repeatedly stated that it will.
The trading card game will have a wider release, including availability on shopDisney, on September 1. The game made its debut at Gen Con 2023, and pre-orders have been available at some big box stores like Best Buy.
In Disney Lorcana, players “wield magic inks and the power of Lorcana to assemble [a] team of Disney characters. Some characters will be familiar friends. Others will be fantastically reimagined.” Check out the full list of Disney Lorcana trading cards and learn to play the game with us below:
