La Taniere du Dragon Reopens at Disneyland Paris With Enhancements

La Tanière du Dragon (The Lair of the Dragon) at Disneyland Paris reopened with various enhancements this month after a months-long refurbishment.

Walt Disney Imagineering shared photos on Instagram and wrote the following:

Guests at Disneyland Paris can once again brave the dingy dungeon under Sleeping Beauty Castle and make eye contact with the mysterious dragon. For the past few months, La Tanière du Dragon underwent a significant refurbishment with the addition of black light projectors and specially reactive transparent paint, themed lighting and show control upgrades, and enhancements by our figure finishing team. Incredible work by our Paris Imagineers and Disneyland Paris Central Shops!

La Tanière du Dragon is a walkthrough attraction beneath Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty Castle) in Disneyland Park. It was an opening-day attraction on April 12, 1992, and remains unique to the Parisian park.

The main feature of the cavern walkthrough is the 89-foot audio-animatronic dragon that growls and blows smoke between naps. In 1992, it was the largest animatronic ever built.

More Disneyland Paris Construction

Les Mystères du Nautilus, another walkthrough attraction at Disneyland Paris, underwent a similar update and reopened earlier this year — although with more controversial changes.

Various queue and seating area enhancements are also planned for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Casey’s Corner, and Peter Pan’s Flight. Disney will add “Frozen” and “Winnie the Pooh” to Le Pays des Contes de Fées (Storybook Land Canal Boats) in 2024.

The refurbished Disneyland Hotel will reopen in the new year and Disney Sequoia Lodge will be refurbished sometime after. Golden emblems for all the Disney Parks have returned to Disney Village amidst an ongoing reimagining of the shopping and dining center.

The most significant construction at Disneyland Paris, however, is in Walt Disney Studios Park. Work recently began on a major overhaul of the Studio 1 entrance area. Just three months after it was unveiled, the Worlds of Pixar backdrop was being repaired. Most significantly, a Lake Promenade expansion to the park will include the Kingdom of Arendelle, a “Tangled” ride, English gardens, and more.
