According to social media reports, a young guest dropped their Mouse Ears and jumped out of the car to get them. The guest was then run over by the trackless Zootopia Police Department cop car ride vehicle.
There are photos of the aftermath of the incident, which may be too graphic for some, but they can be found at this link.
It is unknown what level of injuries the guest sustained from the vehicle and it may be unlikely that we will receive an update from China on the matter.
The ride system for Zootopia Hot Pursuit at Shanghai Disneyland is no different than any of the trackless rides Disney has built in the last few years, such as Mystic Manor, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, or Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. To our knowledge, this is the first time a vehicle from one of these attractions has run over, or even struck a guest. It is unknown if the incident will bring an imminent closure to these attractions around the world for safety checks.
Shanghai Disney Resort has issued the following statement:
“Zootopia: Hot Pursuit” is temporarily out of service until further notice. The other offerings of Zootopia including entertainment, F&B, and merchandise will continue to operate as normal.
We understand this may impact some guests’ original visit plans, in which case we will provide refunds or exchanges for guests who have purchased park tickets for December 25, 2023 and wish to reschedule their visit to another date.
Please contact your original point of purchase for refund or exchange of tickets for Shanghai Disneyland (tickets not redeemed), or contact Shanghai Disney Resort Reservation Center for other inquiries. The same policy applies to Early Park Entry Pass for December 25, 2023.
Policies for Shanghai Disneyland Annual Pass holders will be soon available on the resort’s Annual Pass Hub.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, and please follow the resort’s official App for latest operational arrangements.
In Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, guests become a rookie police officer at the Zootopia Police Department (ZPD). The ride is set after the events of the animated film, as residents of the animal city are gearing up for a Zootopia Day concert featuring Gazelle. In the queue, guests encounter audio-animatronics of Officer Clawhauser and Chief Bogo.
Guests are assigned as back-up to Officer Judy Hopps and her partner, Officer Nick Wilde. They hop into police car-inspired vehicles.
