UPDATE: Zootopia Hot Pursuit to Resume Operations Following Incident Where Guest Was Struck by Ride Vehicle

Following the incident earlier when a young guest was struck by a ride vehicle after jumping out, Shanghai Disney has announced that Zootopia Hot Pursuit will reopen today.

The resort issued a statement declaring, “All guests are required to comply with the resort’s operational guidelines as they experience the attraction.”

According to social media reports, a young guest dropped their Mouse Ears and jumped out of the car to get them. The guest was then run over by the trackless Zootopia Police Department cop car ride vehicle.

There are photos of the aftermath of the incident, which may be too graphic for some, but they can be found at this link.

It is unknown what level of injuries the guest sustained from the vehicle and it may be unlikely that we will receive an update from China on the matter.

The ride system for Zootopia Hot Pursuit at Shanghai Disneyland is no different than any of the trackless rides Disney has built in the last few years, such as Mystic Manor, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, or Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. To our knowledge, this is the first time a vehicle from one of these attractions has run over, or even struck a guest. It is unknown if the incident will bring an imminent closure to these attractions around the world for safety checks.
