Disney Sets Release Dates for ‘Toy Story 5,’ ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu,’ and Live-Action ‘Moana’

Disney has announced the release dates for “Toy Story 5,” “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” and the live-action “Moana.”

All three films will debut in 2026, with “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” hitting theaters on May 22, “Toy Story 5” releasing on June 19, and the live-action “Moana” premiering on July 10. Disney has also announced that “TRON: Ares” will hit movie theaters on October 10, 2025.

“The Mandalorian & Grogu” continues the story started by Disney+ series, “The Mandalorian.” Directed by series creator, Jon Favreau, the film is set to begin filming this summer. It will be the first Star Wars film to hit theaters since “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. Not much has been shared about the plot or casting of the film, though it is likely Pedro Pascal will return to voice Din Djarin.

“Toy Story 5” will be the sixth theatrical release in the “Toy Story” franchise, following “Toy Story” in 1995, “Toy Story 2” in 1999, “Toy Story 3” in 2010, “Toy Story 4” in 2019, and the spin-off film, “Lightyear,” in 2022. Details have not been released about “Toy Story 5,” however Tim Allen, voice of Buzz Lightyear, revealed in late 2023 that he and Tom Hanks (voice of Woody) had been contacted about reprising their roles in the new film.

“Moana”

The live-action adaptation of “Moana” will see Dwayne Johnson reprise his role of Maui from the 2016 animated film. This is in addition to the “Moana 2” animated sequel that will release this November. Johnson confirmed the live-action movie will go into production later this year in an Instagram comment, writing, “Moana animated sequel comes out this holiday [season] and we’ll film live action Moana this year.” Auli’i Cravalho, original voice of Moana will return for the animated sequel, but will not play Moana in the live-action remake.

“TRON: Ares”

“TRON: Ares,” the third film in the “TRON” series, stars Jared Leto as the titular Ares, which is is program “who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings,” according to Deadline. The film also stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.
