Figment Footprints Missing From Journey Into Imagination

A brightly lit, curved hallway with smooth, white walls and a dark, speckled floor invites you into a Journey Into Imagination. Several ceiling lights are evenly spaced along the corridor, guiding you toward an intriguing exit.

The Figment footprints normally found at the exit of Journey Into Imagination With Figment are missing at EPCOT.

Guests exiting Journey Into Imagination With Figment will notice that the purple dragon’s footprints are no longer lining the walls of the exit hallway. The footprints have been painted over and the walls are now solid purple.

We have seen Figment’s footprints painted over in the past. Most recently, this occurred in 2016. While this led some fans to worry that the end of Figment was near, the footprints were repainted in 2017. No changes were made to the actual attraction.

A dimly lit corridor with several blue arrow stickers on the wall, guiding towards a door at the end. Fluorescent lights hang from the ceiling, as if leading visitors on a Journey Into Imagination.

The above photo shows what the attraction’s exit hall has looked like since 2017. Guests follow Figment’s trail from the end of the ride to ImageWorks – The “What If” Labs.

Rumors have circulated for years that the ride may get a reimagining. We even predicted that there would be an announcement at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. However, neither Figment nor the attraction were mentioned at the event. While the footprints disappearing will lead to speculation about the attraction’s future, we would be surprised if it undergoes any meaningful changes without a prior announcement. That being said, a permit was filed in April 2024 for work on the Imagination! Pavilion.

Journey Into Imagination With Figment hasn’t received a major overhaul since 2002. You can read the complete history of the attraction here.

  1. I will defend Disney on just about everything they decide to do at the parks (change is change, we all adapt, etc. etc.), but for a company that employs actual “Imagineers” to not address an attraction based on “Imagination” – which includes original EPCTO IP – will forever baffle me to the point of frustration.

    • I love Figment and love this attraction. I honestly hope they do eventually update and keep this attraction alive. If they ever remove it I will be vehemently opposed to that.
