Tokyo Disneyland recently tested nighttime lighting on its new Space Mountain, as captured on video by X user @tacchi0712.
Space Mountain Lighting
The video shows purple lighting along the edges of the new coaster’s facade. Starting at about the 40 second timestamp, the lights turn off in segments.
The new Space Mountain, rumored to be named Space Mountain: Earthrise, is scheduled to open in 2027. That means there are still several months of construction and testing ahead, so this lighting may not be the final look. It is similar to lighting seen in the ride’s concept art (below) but purple instead of blue.

The new version of the coaster is expected to combine a tilting track with rotating vehicles. It’s Disney’s most expensive ride ever. Work began in 2022, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held in May 2023. The old Space Mountain closed in July 2024. Scaffolding came down in April of this year.
A geodesic satellite inspired by the original Disneyland Space Mountain was recently spotted at the construction site.
The construction also includes a new Tomorrowland plaza, as seen in concept art.
