The new coaster, rumored to be named Space Mountain: Earthrise, is under construction in Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland and thanks to a new video uploaded to YouTube, we have a first look at how, for the first time ever, a ride will combine a tilting track and rotating vehicles.
The brand-new Space Mountain at Tokyo Disney Resort is set to open in 2027.
The coaster will be Disney’s most expensive ride ever. Construction began before the old Space Mountain closed in July 2024.
Space Mountain: Earthrise Spinning Ride Vehicles

The video shows a wrapped attraction ride vehicle on top of a flatbed truck. This ride vehicle clearly is clearly an Omnicoaster car that will spin, similar to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT.
The Omnicoaster is a ride system developed by Disney Imagineering and Vekoma that combines high-speed, programmable spinning vehicles with traditional coaster tracks. This allows the cars to rotate 360 degrees, with controlled rotation so that riders can focus on specific show scenes for maximum storytelling.

A close-up look at the vehicle shows a rotating base. This rotating base would allow the ride vehicle to change direction throughout the ride, just like Cosmic Rewind. Also, according to the video, it will potentially have a tilted-up launch, not a ride feature of Cosmic Rewind.
This combination of tilting track effects (pieces that tilt, including one in the launch sequence) and Omnicoaster rotation takes the Omnicoaster a step further than Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Work began on the construction site in 2022 and a groundbreaking ceremony was held in May 2023. The old Space Mountain closed in July 2024 and scaffolding just recently came down in early April.
