The budget for the new Space Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland has increased, making it the most expensive attraction Walt Disney Imagineering has ever built.
Space Mountain Budget

The original budget for the new Space Mountain and Tomorrowland plaza was ¥56 billion. A few years ago, this was approximately equal to $437 million. With today’s exchange rate, it’s more like $360 million.
But the Oriental Land Company revealed in their third quarter results for the fiscal year ending March 2026 that the project’s budget is now ¥70.5 billion, which is closer to $460 million.
Though the exchange rate and inflation makes the math finicky, it’s safe to say that by the time Space Mountain opens in 2027, it will be Imagineering’s most expensive attraction to date.
Construction of the new ride began while the old Space Mountain was still open. The old ride closed in July 2024. In recent months, the new show building has taken shape with white paneling and spires.
The coaster is rumored to be named Space Mountain: Earthrise and will feature enhance performance and immersive special effects. The new Tomorrowland plaza is designed to express the connection between Earth and the universe, representing an image of a future where humans are in harmony with nature. After dark, the area will draw guests into a world of light and soundscapes.
Wreck-It Ralph Ride

A new Wreck-It Ralph attraction will also open in Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland in spring 2027. It replaces Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, which closed in October 2024. Though it’s a ride reimagining using the existing Astro Blasters infrastructure, it also has a high budget of ¥29.5 billion (nearly $200 million).
