Scaffolding on Gonzo’s Royal Flush, More Brick Removed From MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

There’s new scaffolding in the former Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and crews continue to remove brickwork and more from the various facades.

Scaffolding is along the side of Gonzo’s Royal Flush, between the entrance and PizzeRizzo. Like the other buildings in Muppets Courtyard, Gonzo’s Royal Flush will be reimagined for the new land. It houses the area’s restrooms.

Over the past few weeks, prop pipes and brickwork have been removed from the walls. The sign was removed back in December.

Near the construction walls, which were moved forward recently, a crew member on a ladder was working on a lamppost. We also noticed that lights had been removed from the nearby entrance columns. Compare to our photo below from the land’s closure last summer.

The building in the center of that photo is Stage 1 Company Store, the Muppets gift shop that was quickly demolished after the area closed. The PizzeRizzo billboard also visible in that picture was removed in December.

MuppetVision 3D Theater

As we’ve reported over the past several days, crew members have been removing brick from the MuppetVision 3D theater facade. The brick removal seems to correspond with a new marquee and decorations seen in Monstropolis concept art. Since our last update, more brick has been removed from the clock tower around the actual clock.

It also looks like the roof elements they’ve been demolishing are completely gone.

Compare to the Monstropolis concept art below.

Aerial concept art of Disney's Hollywood Studios shows buildings, trees, a central fountain, and guests in Monsters, Inc. Land.

We don’t know what the theater will house when it reopens, but the concept art indicates it will be named The Glob.

Also take note of those entrance columns we mentioned earlier. It looks like they won’t have lamps anymore but some kind of signage where the lights used to be. They will also be topped with statues. Here’s the full concept art:

A concept art poster for Monsters, Inc. Land is displayed on a red construction wall at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The main attraction of the new land will be the Monsters, Inc. door coaster, under construction in a cast member parking lot.

Though Muppets Courtyard is no more, the Muppets will soon take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster on the other side of the park.
