Walt Disney World Ends Shelter-in-Place Advisory for Resort Guests After Hurricane Milton, Disney Springs to Remain Closed Today

Walt Disney World has lifted its advisory for resort guests to continue sheltering indoors following Hurricane Milton. In addition, Disney Springs will remain closed today.

Walt Disney World Lifts Shelter-in-Place Advisory

The update for guests to shelter-in-place in their resort hotel was removed from the Weather Updates page on the Walt Disney World website at 9:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, October 10. Earlier in the morning, guests were advised to stay indoors as Disney assessed the damage to the resort left in the wake of Hurricane Milton.

Disney Springs to Remain Closed on October 10

In addition, Disney confirmed that, despite initial hope to reopen Disney Springs later this afternoon, the shopping and dining district will remain closed on Thursday, October 10.

At this time, Walt Disney World Resort is closed through today, Thursday, October 10. This includes all theme parks, Disney Springs, the Disney Springs parking garages, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park, and Disney’s two miniature golf courses. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has also been cancelled for tonight, and event tickets have been refunded.

Partially used multi-day tickets will have their expiration dates adjusted so that they now expire on October 11, 2025. Disney will not enforce cancellation policies for dining and other bookable experiences until further notice. Prepaid bookable offerings will be automatically refunded within 7 to 10 business days.

Walt Disney World transportation and the Minnie Van service are currently unavailable.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are temporarily closed. They will likely remain closed until this Sunday, October 13.

Select dining locations will continue operation for guests staying in Disney Resort hotels. Guests are asked to check the My Disney Experience app for the latest updates. Guests are also encouraged to plan ahead and stop by any food court or quick-service dining location to pre-purchase breakfast and lunch for today, October 10.

Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels can enjoy the following activities:

  • Free Disney movies in their Resort hotel room
  • Surprise character visits and more in the lobby
  • Free play in arcades starting at 4 p.m.
  • Normal operating hours for fitness centers

Walt Disney World paused hotel reservations for October 9 and 10 due to Hurricane Milton. Park reservations have been blocked on these dates as well. Hotel cancellation and change fees have been waived for guests staying at Disney Resort hotels, with Disney extending this policy twice.

Cast Members began preparing for the storm on October 9, including various work at Magic Kingdom.

A curfew was issued for parts of Walt Disney World yesterday, October 9. It was in effect through at least 10 a.m. today, October 10.

Disney CEO Bob Iger shared wishes of safety for Floridians ahead of Hurricane Milton making landfall. It is estimated that the storm could cost Walt Disney World $200 million.
