While the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is about to celebrate its grand opening, the Great Ceremonial House at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is literally falling apart. A WDWNT employee witnessed a ceiling tile fall in the resort lobby, narrowly missing a guest.

The tile was near the back of the lobby, behind the Maui statue in the center of the Great Ceremonial House. In the photo above, you can see the square hole it left in the ceiling. Thankfully, nobody was injured when it fell.

A Cast Member quickly grabbed the tile, which featured a swirl design, and stood with it. We saw the Cast Member on the phone, likely contacting maintenance to replace the tile as soon as possible.

The Great Ceremonial House received soft goods updates in 2023 and early 2024. Carpets, upholstery, and rugs were all replaced. This followed the 2021 reimagining of the resort’s entrance, including its porte-cochere and Monorail station.

Disney Vacation Club’s new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows officially opens on Tuesday, December 17. We previewed a one-bedroom villa and a two-bedroom penthouse, a brand-new type of DVC accommodation. Check out some of the tower’s interior spaces and the pool area with a Moana splash pad. The tower also includes the resort’s first-ever fitness center.
