“Despicable Me” and “Sing” added to Universal Road Signs

After debuting studio Intellectual Property (IP) characters on the digital screens attached to the new Universal Orlando Resort road signs, it appears Universal is now expanding the roster of featured characters. The latest loop of images played on the sign near Epic Blvd included the films “Despicable Me” and “Sing” incorporated for the first time.

The “Despicable Me” section is a bit shorter than some of the other featured IPs, as it only shows one set of characters on either side of the Universal globe logo before changing backgrounds for the next IP. Gru is shown wearing his classic black jacket and striped scarf to the left of the globe, while three Minions stand to the right of the globe. The Minions appear to be Kevin, Stuart, and Bob, who were the stars of the “Minions” film from the same franchise. The “Despicable Me” characters now appear after the “Jurassic World” dinosaurs during the loop.

A large Universal Digital Sign showcases "Universal Orlando Resort" with animated characters, including a moose, bear, and gorilla. They're vibrant against the dark backdrop, much like the playful energy of Sing and Despicable Me characters.

The additional new characters featured on the road signs are from another Illumination offering: the 2016 film “Sing.” Like the “Despicable Me” display, only one set of characters from “Sing” is shown before the loop changes to a new IP background. The pigs Rosita and Gunter stand to the left of the globe, while guerilla Johnny stands on the right. “Sing” now appears between “Despicable Me” and “Transformers” during the loop.

A vibrant sign for Universal Orlando Resort, nestled among lush greenery and flowers, proudly displays the iconic globe logo at its center. Nearby, attractions like Despicable Me and Sing add an extra touch of excitement to the enchanting atmosphere.

These new additions appear to have been slotted between the existing IP images to make the film loop longer, as none of the previous images have been removed. The franchises that already appeared on the screens when they started playing the IP loop include “Harry Potter,” “Transformers,” multiple characters from DreamWorks Animation, and “Jurassic World.” Universal has made no announcement regarding the new Illumination characters or whether more IPs are still planned for the road signs.

The new Universal Orlando Resort signs have been placed at the corners of most of the major roads leading into the property, including:

  • Epic Blvd and Destination Pkwy
  • Turkey Lake Road and Hollywood Way
  • Universal Boulevard and Hollywood Way
  • South Kirkman Road and Major Boulevard
  • Vineland Road and Universal Boulevard
