Disney Villains Land Construction Could Start Next Month at Magic Kingdom

A permit indicates construction of the Disney Villains land at Magic Kingdom could begin as early as March 1.

Disney Villains Land Construction

A mesmerizing fantasy landscape unfolds with a towering castle, jagged mountains, and glowing waterfalls. Various mythical creatures roam under a colorful sky, reminiscent of the enchanting realms envisioned for Disney Parks 2025.

Realtor Ken Pozek uncovered a permit on a construction bidding site titled “Disney Magic Kingdom Expansion – Villains Land.” The permit lists a start date of March 1, 2025, with an estimated budget of $25 million – $50 million.

This budget would only be for initial work, like clearing the land. Construction of the actual rides, shops, and more will cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

The project will be 14 acres. For reference, Magic Kingdom is currently 107 acres.

Disney said the land would have two major attractions, which the permit indicates will be a roller coaster and an indoor ride.

The permit does not mention the “Cars” expansion to Frontierland, also including two rides. It will take over most of the Rivers of America, resulting in the closure of Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat.

The Disney Villains land will be constructed behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, also taking over some of river. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for an extended refurbishment, in part to prepare for the land’s construction nearby.

Though the permit lists March 1 as a start date, construction may not actually begin on that day and may not be visible for some time. Disney submitted plans regarding the Rivers of America space to the South Florida Water Management District and later had to submit updates following the District’s request for additional information.

Disney released a list of villains that will be featured in the land.
