Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Water Leak Effect Restored in Queue After Almost 25 Years

Guests riding The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios may have noticed a water leak in the queue for the attraction, which is actually an old effect that has been missing for nearly 25 years.

Water Leak Effect Restored

People strolling near the iconic Tower of Terror ride at a theme park are enveloped by swaying palm trees and vibrant signs, offering a classic Hollywood Studios experience.

Guests riding The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror may think the attraction has sprung a leak, as a pipe running across the ceiling in the queue is now dripping water. However, the water leak is not a maintenance issue but a long-missing effect that has recently been restored to the attraction.

A large, industrial fan set in a brick wall, surrounded by pipes reminiscent of those in Hollywood Studios' Tower of Terror, with overhead lighting casting a dim atmosphere.

After exiting the pre-show library room, guests riding the Tower of Terror enter what is supposed to be the hotel’s boiler room. To see the restored water leak, guests must choose the line that leads straight ahead when the queue splits.

A cluttered workshop area with a rusty toolbox, various tools, and wires sits beneath the dim glow of an overhead bulb, reminiscent of backstage secrets at Hollywood Studios. A small workbench leans against the concrete wall, hinting at the mysterious magic behind the scenes.

The pipe dripping water is meant to further tell the story of the employees working at the abandoned Hollywood Tower Hotel. The water is angled to drip into a small tin can sitting on a table. The can is surrounded by piles of rusted tools and parts.

Open tool chest with three drawers, featuring a cloth, clamp, hammer, and a note labeled "DO NOT REMOVE FROM THIS TABLE." It's like the backstage secrets of Hollywood Studios—perfectly organized chaos hiding its own Tower of Terror surprises.

A note stuck to the edge of the table reads “Order Replacement Parts – Guest Elevator #2.” This small effect is another unsettling detail warning guests that everything might not be quite right with the elevators.

The water leak effect was present when The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror originally opened in 1994. However, after a few years of operation, the water suddenly stopped dripping. The effect has not been present in the queue for nearly 25 years.

The weathered, stone-like facade of the building evokes an old Hollywood Studios charm, with an arched entrance and illuminated menu display that hints at the eerie allure of a place like the Tower of Terror.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last July, has been receiving a lot more maintenance attention in the past year. The scorch marks around the elevator shafts in the hotel lobby were restored to coincide with last summer’s anniversary. Additionally, a new MagicBand+ effect was added to the library pre-show, causing all bands to light up in sync with the lightning strike in the film. In other recent news, replicas of the Tower Hotel Gifts art can now be purchased from The Art of Disney on Demand kiosks.
