“Dog Man,” a spin-off from the “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” has avoided a *ruff* first weekend by earning $36 Million.

DreamWorks Animation

By earning $36 Million, the film is currently in the number one spot for opening weekends of 2025 in North America after its opening on January 31.

According to Variety, the film “opened at the higher end of expectations thanks to great buzz and pent-up demand for family offerings. Moviegoers awarded the film an “A” grade on CinemaScore, signaling a long tail in theaters.”

DreamWorks Animation

However, the cartoon film has not faired as well in the international box office. Over 29 international markets, the film has only garnered $4.2 million over its opening weekend.

DreamWorks describes the movie by stating, “When a faithful police dog and his human police officer owner are injured together on the job, a harebrained but life-saving surgery fuses the two of them together and Dog Man is born. Dog Man is sworn to protect and serve—and fetch, sit and roll over. As Dog Man embraces his new identity and strives to impress his Chief, he must stop the pretty evil plots of feline supervillain Petey the Cat.”

The film is directed by Emmy winner Peter Hastings and stars Pete Davidson, Lil Red Howery, and Isla Fisher, among others. It’s based on the graphic novel series by Dav Pilkey.

Universal Orlando Resort is “celebrating” the release of the new DreamWorks film “Dog Man” by providing guests the opportunity to take a bite out of tennis ball and try dog food.

A yellow frosted cupcake in a cloud-patterned box sits next to an open can labeled "Puff Mix" on a speckled surface, reminiscent of Tom Corless's adventures at Universal Studios Florida.

The Ruff Mix Mac and Cheese and Greg the Dog Tennis Ball are available at DreamWorks Imagination Cafe. Discounts apply.
