It appears the problem of shoes getting stuck at the top of the escalator in The Land pavilion has not been fully resolved, as the walkway is temporarily closed once again.

Another Shoe Gets Stuck in The Land Escalator

A downward escalator descends in a modern indoor setting, connecting the land of two bustling floors, adorned with vibrant signs and decorations, as people navigate their journeys above and below.

UPDATE – March 9, 2025, 6:27 p.m.: After checking back a little later, we found that Cast Members have already fixed the escalator! Continue reading below to learn what happened.

In January of 2024, a Croc was spotted trapped in the escalator near the upper level of The Land pavilion, causing everyone to use either the elevator or the stairs. Only a week after this incident, a whole pair of Crocs were spotted once again stuck at the top of The Land escalator, causing it to be closed for another day. After these incidents in 2024, however, the escalator at The Land pavilion has been relatively quiet — until today.

A sign reading "Walkway Closed, Sorry for the Inconvenience" is placed on a stopped escalator within EPCOT's Land Pavilion.

Today, Sunday, March 9, the escalator heading up from the lower floor to the entrance floor of The Land pavilion is once more out of service. A blue and white A-frame sign saying “Walkway closed, sorry for the inconvenience” has been placed at both the top and bottom of the offending escalator.

The latest culprit to break the escalator is not a Croc this time, but a tan and white Adidas tennis shoe. The shoe is very easy to spot wedged into the top lip of the escalator, to the left of the standing sign.

A single sneaker lies stuck on an escalator step near a caution sign, reminiscent of a quirky display one might stumble upon in EPCOT's Land Pavilion.

As with most of the previous cases involving Crocs, the toe of the shoe did not go over the yellow spiked edge as intended, and instead got wedged underneath the step. Ironically, the shoe is stuck directly next to a yellow caution sign.

The escalator leading to the Land Pavilion is closed off with a sign reading "Walkway Closed." Pedestrians are visible in the background of the shopping mall, creating a scene reminiscent of bustling pathways at EPCOT.

In the past, it has only taken Cast Members a few hours to a day for the shoe to be removed and the escalator to begin operations again. We expect this issue will have a similar timeframe, unless the damage underneath happens to be more severe.

Until then, however, guests trying to get back up the exit of The Land pavilion will need to use the side elevator or climb the regular stairs.

  1. I can’t help but suspect some of these incidents are on purpose. People see the reports on sites like this, or TikTok and want to be part of the action. It’s really suspicious when the offending shoe is an old, dirty shoe that someone would easily leave behind.
