The plain beige scrims of Carthay Circle Restaurant have been replaced by printed themed scrims meant to “camouflage” the construction.
Carthay Circle Construction
The scrim is wrapped around scaffolding that covers the iconic tower, most of the marquee, and the right side of the building.
Refurbishment on the Carthay Circle façade began in February. Scrim and scaffolding went up around the tower a week ago.
The restaurant remains open, with the front of the marquee uncovered and the entrance open through construction walls.
The left side of the building is untouched, but the right side is completely blocked from view. The printed scrims even include blue sections to represent the sky.
The construction work is probably basic maintenance, like repainting and repairs, though Disney has made no official announcement.
The restaurant is modeled after the original Carthay Circle Theater built in 1926, considered one of the great movie palaces of the golden age of Hollywood. Walt Disney’s first feature-length film, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” premiered at the theater in 1937. Screen-used costumes from the live-action “Snow White” are currently on display inside Carthay Circle Restaurant.
