Disney Parks Teases Possible Figment Series

Disney Parks has posted twice on social media about a potential Figment series after Bob Iger teased the possibility during Thursday’s Annual Shareholders meeting.

Figment Series

Disney Parks first posted an image of Figment at his EPCOT meet and greet with Iger’s quote and “FIGMENT NEWS!”

I’ve been asked this so many times that I am going to ask our creative teams to consider making some form of series or short-form videos of Figment. Obviously, he’s more popular than just a walkaround character in our parks and resorts.

Disney then posted a video of Iger “telling Figment he could be getting a new series!” The video puts Iger’s audio over footage of Figment on the phone in Journey Into Imagination. It then cuts to Figment saying, “That’s the best idea you’ve had all day!”

Iger brought up a possible Figment series when asked, “Would the company consider using Figment in other parts of the business, such as creating a film based on the character?”

Strangely, he did not mention the previously announced Figment movie from Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures. The film was announced in 2022, with Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit (“Pokémon Detective Pikachu”) attached as writers. But with no news since and Iger’s latest comment, it seems the movie was canceled.

While Iger’s exact quote is designed to make it sound like he just came up with the idea, it’s unlikely he would say such a thing if a Figment series wasn’t already being talked about. The Disney Parks posts also suggest a Figment series could be further along in development than they’re letting on.

Figment is a little purple dragon, who first debuted as part of the Journey Into Imagination ride at EPCOT in 1983, alongside his creator, Dreamfinder. The ride has changed significantly since its debut but Figment is still a fan-favorite character. Disney opened a Figment meet and greet in 2023. That same year, Figment visited Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering. He acts as the mascot of EPCOT, frequently featured on festival merchandise.
