Disney’s Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Projected to Make $50 Million Opening Weekend

Disney’s upcoming live-action remagining of “Snow White” is projected to make $50 million during its opening weekend.

“Snow White” Box Office Predictions

According to Variety, Disney’s live-action “Snow White” is estimated to rake in $45 million to $55 million during its opening weekend across North American theaters. The film is projected to make $50 million internationally and more than $100 million globally.

Based on the projections, “Snow White” won’t reach the initial box office profits of other Disney live-action remakes. Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid” brought in $95 million during its opening weekend, and the 2016 live-action “The Jungle Book” opened to $103 million.

Three Disney live-action films have had billion-dollar opening weekends, including “The Lion King,” “Aladdin,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

A young woman in a yellow skirt stands surrounded by seven dwarfs inside a rustic, wood-paneled cottage, as if stepping out of a fairy tale that needs no daily recap.

“Snow White” cost upwards of $250 million to produce, before factoring in marketing costs. Disney is hoping for a similar scenario to “Mufasa,” which opened with $35 million but eventually hit $252 million domestically and $716 million worldwide. The film will hit Disney+ later this month.

The film stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. The film follows Snow White as she partners with the seven dwarfs to free her kingdom from her cruel stepmother.

The movie has faced backlash and several controversies throughout both production and promotion, including those surrounding changes to the story — like the new backstory for the heroine’s name and the update from featuring “seven magical creatures” back to the dwarfs.

Calls for boycotts have also been made due to Zegler and Gadot’s stances on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Disney held smaller movie premiers in London and Hollywood due to the backlash. Members of the cast have expressed “disappointment” in the downgrading of the film’s premieres.

“Snow White” arrives in theaters on March 21. You can view the trailer for the film below.
