Rebecca Romijn will return to the Marvel films for the first time since an uncredited cameo in “X-Men: First Class.”

Romijn portrayed Raven Darkhölme / Mystique in the original three “X-Men” films from 2000 to 2006. She appeared briefly as the character in “X-Men: First Class” (2011). She will now join her fellow X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for “Avengers: Doomsday.”

Romijn was announced on an hours-long livestream revealing the cast of the fifth Avengers film. Her name followed the reveals that Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer, Ian McKellen, and Alan Cumming had all been cast. While Stewart and Grammer have appeared in the MCU before as variants of Professor X and Beast, respectively, McKellen, Cumming, and Romijn are all newcomers to the franchise.

We don’t know if Romijn will portray the same version of Mystique from Fox’s “X-Men” films, a variant, or potentially even a new character.

“Avengers: Doomsday” will be in theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7, 2027.
