More of the Tortilla Jo’s and Taqueria facades in the Downtown Disney District have been demolished so they can become new restaurants.

Tortilla Jo’s Demolition

People walk towards a large, pink building with a unique architectural style on a cloudy day, surrounded by palm trees and vibrant construction barriers.

Work on the exterior did not begin until this month — almost a year after Tortilla Jo’s and Taqueria permanently closed. The first signs of demolition were on the right side of the building, where doors were removed and a small roof has been torn up.

A clear view of the Tortilla Jo’s interior shows that it has been gutted. String lights have been removed from the outdoor seating area. There are still string lights on the balcony.

Crews have begun tearing down the overhang above the main entrance. The basic curved steel frame remains but the straw is gone.

Pieces of the overhang are gone on the right.

Crews also removed awnings from the Taqueria side.

There are some pieces of red fabric stuck to the building where the full awnings used to be.

From across Disneyland Drive, we noticed that the large neon Tortilla Jo’s sign remains on the back of the building.

Tortilla Jo’s and the Taqueria will be replaced by Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon, a classic steakhouse with a center bar, and Pearl’s Roadside BBQ, a quick-service eatery. See their concept art below.
