In “Toy Story 5,” Ernie Hudson will take over as the voice of Combat Carl, who was previously voiced by the late Carl Weathers, Deadline confirmed.
Ernie Hudson to Provide Voice for Combat Carl in ‘Toy Story 5’
Weathers debuted as the character (and as Combat Carl Jr.) in the 2013 special “Toy Story of Terror!” He reprised the role for “Toy Story 4” (2019). Also known for his football career, and for portraying Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” films and Greef Karga in “The Mandalorian,” Weathers passed away at age 76 in early 2024 due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Ernie Hudson, 79, is most known for his role as Winston Zeddemore in the “Ghostbusters” franchise.
For Disney, Hudson previously voiced Grini Millegi in one episode of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” played King Poseidon in an episode of ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” and had a recurring guest role as Miles in ABC’s “Modern Family.” He’s portraying a version of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in a horror movie, in development separate from Disney, following the character entering the public domain.
In “Toy Story 5,” Sheriff Woody reunites with his other toy friends, and the gang will face off against electronics. It’s written and directed by Andrew Stanton. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz. Anna Faris is also part of the cast.
