A delightful collage of culinary delights: refreshing cocktails and drinks, a scrumptious dish with meatballs and dessert, plates brimming with fried chicken and sides, alongside meals featuring sandwiches and salads. It's a terra luna spread of flavors on a table in an inviting dining area.

REVIEW: Out-of-this-World Drinks From Moonrise Bar, Omega Cafe Meals at Universal Terra Luna Resort

Gretchen McDermid

Universal Terra Luna Resort is now open to guests ahead of the grand opening of Epic Universe. We tried a few beverages from Moonrise Bar and items from breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Omega Cafe.

Moonrise Bar at Universal Terra Luna Resort

Two beverages on a table in plastic cups adorned with the "Universal's Terra Luna Resort" logo: one features a light-colored drink with an orange slice, and the other is a dark concoction garnished with mint.

Seven Rings – $16

Bulleit Bourbon and Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge muddled with fresh lemons, strawberry rose syrup, and lemon sour

A dark-themed cup from Moonrise Bar holds a brown iced beverage, garnished with fresh mint leaves. It sits on a coaster with a rainbow design atop a gray table at the Universal Terra Luna Resort.

We added the souvenir Terra Luna cup to this drink for an extra $1. There is a typical sweetness that is similar to most syrup-heavy drinks, but this drink does not feel as thick. The bourbon comes through nicely and mixes well with the strawberry.

Impact Event – $16

A collision of Terra (Aperol blended with pineapple juice, cream of coconut, Madagascar vanilla, and Prosecco) and Chaparral (SelvaRey White Rum blended with fresh lime juice, cucumber syrup, and topped with fresh mint)

A frozen drink in a clear cup with orange and grapefruit slices on the rim, featuring a Terra Luna Resort stirrer from the Moonrise Bar.

This is the most confusing frozen drink we have ever tasted. The cucumber syrup overwhelms all of the other flavors. Trying to mix the contents doesn’t help, plus the frozen texture makes stirring the drink difficult.

Omega Cafe Breakfast

Two bowls, one brimming with seasoned terra luna potatoes and the other with fried eggs on sauce, sit alongside a chocolate cake adorned with powdered sugar and white drizzle, all elegantly set on a table.

Breakfast Tofu (Vegan) – $15.50

Tofu, garbanzo beans, onions, roasted pepper, tomatoes, oregano, basil, and toasted flatbread

A bowl of small fried potato balls on a bed of tomato sauce, garnished with herbs, is surrounded by triangular pieces of crispbread—a celestial blend that promises a taste as intriguing as Terra Luna's mysterious allure.

Omega Cafe serves a steeply-priced breakfast but the portions are giant. This dish and the one below both come with “toasted flatbread,” which usually means pizza in the theme park world. In this case, it means seasoned bread crisps, which are good. We don’t know if they go with the rest of the dish but we would buy a bag of them just like chips.

As for the rest of the meal, it has a rich tomato flavor. The tofu is perfectly fried, and the meal is well seasoned overall. We think it’s a fantastic dish.

Nebula’s Nest – $15.50

Two sunny-side-up eggs, garbanzo beans, onions, roasted pepper, tomatoes, oregano, basil, and toasted flatbread

A dish featuring two sunny-side-up eggs on a rich tomato sauce, reminiscent of a Terra Luna landscape, garnished with fresh green herbs and accompanied by triangular pieces of seasoned flatbread.

This is essentially the same dish but with eggs, making it non-vegan. It’s hard to mess up eggs, and they didn’t here. We weren’t sure what the seasoning on top of the eggs was — maybe chimichurri? This is just as good as the vegan dish.

Space Monkey – $11

Sweet dough, chocolate, applewood smoked bacon, caramel, and confetti cream cheese sauce

The monkey bread at Universal Stella Nova Resort’s Cosmos Cafe wasn’t amazing. This was much softer, fresher, and hotter. It’s still not the best monkey bread we’ve ever had — that honor goes to River Belle Terrace at Disneyland — but it’s good. The dough is sweet. There’s a nice chocolate flavor, and we love the cream cheese sauce. The bacon adds a bit of smokiness on the back end, which is a nice contrast.

Omega Cafe Lunch

Three trays on a table showcase a lunch spread at Moonrise Bar: a sandwich with fries, a wrap with sweet potato fries, and a vibrant salad. Guests at the Universal Terra Luna Resort enjoy desserts paired with fresh fruit and steaming coffee cups in the lively background.

Raw & Shaved Cauliflower Cluster – $13

Brussel sprouts, dates, cashew crunch, white balsamic vinaigrette (Plant-Based and Gluten-Free)

A textured bowl brimming with a salad of shredded cabbage, nuts, and perhaps some dried fruits rests elegantly on a light-colored table at the Moonrise Bar.

This dish is very light and refreshing, plus the portion size is big enough to be a decent lunch meal. We recommend getting one of the dates in every bite, we wish there were more of them.

Cosmic Explosion – $13

Garbanzo bean hummus, grilled seasonal vegetables, spinach, flour tortilla (Plant-Based)

The wrap itself was, again, extremely fresh, and the filling had a nice mix of vegetables. We especially liked the hummus spread through most of the wrap. As a side note to this dish, the French fries were excellent and very crunchy. If we were solely rating the fries, they would get a 7 out of 7.

The Big French Dipper – $16

Shaved ribeye steak, onions, provolone cheese, au jus, French bread

At Moonrise Bar, enjoy a lunch featuring a sandwich with melted cheese, perfectly paired with sweet potato fries and a small bowl of dipping sauce. In the background, crinkle-cut fries, a burrito, and part of a pizza tempt your taste buds at Universal Terra Luna Resort.

The bread was perfect, especially when dipped in the au jus. There is a very thick layer of provolone cheese. Our only slight complaint is that the ribeye steak was a little chewy and difficult to bite.

Chocolate Moon Pizza – $11

Nutella, marshmallow, strawberries, sugar dust

At Universal Terra Luna Resort, savor a dessert pizza topped with rich chocolate spread and fresh strawberry slices, all drizzled with cream; a perfect treat to enjoy at the Moonrise Bar.

This dessert is easily large enough to share, but it is essentially a crunchy pizza crust covered in Nutella and marshmallows. We could easily make this at home, and it feels a little basic compared to some wilder dessert options.

Omega Cafe Dinner

At the Moonrise Bar in Universal Terra Luna Resort, plates on a table boast fried chicken, mashed potatoes, a biscuit, corn, salad with grilled chicken, onion rings, and a slice of cake—a lunch that's bound to delight every taste bud.

Seared Tofu & Vermicelli Noodles – $17

Cabbage, asparagus, cucumbers, edamame, peppers, mushrooms, roasted peanuts, sesame ginger dressing, green onions, toasted sesame seeds (Plant Based)

A vibrant bowl of stir-fried vegetables with vermicelli noodles and a grilled tofu block, garnished with sesame seeds, sits elegantly on a speckled plate at the Universal Terra Luna Resort, perfect for a delightful lunch experience.

Compared to the plant-based options at Universal Stella Nova Resort during our initial review, we were very impressed by all of the healthy options at Omega Cafe. This is a perfect mix of vegetables, with the asparagus and peppers being our personal highlights. Our only small complaint is that the block of tofu is a little small for the price.

Buttermilk-Pickle-Brined Fried Chicken – $18

Mexican Street corn, whipped potatoes, gravy, southern biscuit (Biscuit is Gluten-Free)

At the Moonrise Bar in the Universal Terra Luna Resort, a lunch plate sits on a gray table featuring a biscuit, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, crispy fried chicken, and a tempting slice of cake in the background.

Our reporter dubbed the chicken “outrageous.” The pickle brine is easy to taste, and the outside of the chicken is nice and crunchy. It is a little greasy, but not overly so, considering it’s fried chicken. The potatoes are lumpy and a bit too buttery, but not bad. The street corn is cheesy and fresh, but the gluten-free biscuit is extremely dry.

Saturn’s Onion Rings – $6.50

Blue cheese sauce

At the Moonrise Bar in Universal Terra Luna Resort, a white bowl brimming with golden-brown onion rings sits invitingly on a gray table, hinting at the delicious lunch to come. Nearby, partial views of other delectable dishes await eager taste buds.

There is a usual amount of greasiness coming from the outside of the rings, but no more than what you would expect. They had a nice coating of salt and were cooked well.

Rating out of 7: 6

Strawberry Layer Cake – $9

Mascarpone and Ricotta cheeses, sponge cake, strawberries

At the Moonrise Bar in Universal Terra Luna Resort, savor a slice of layered cake with cream and red filling, topped with a dollop of dark fruit preserve and dusted with powdered sugar on a pristine white plate.

Our cake was served very cold, to an unpleasant degree. The cake was still somehow soft and moist, and the cheese didn’t taste artificial. The strawberry also tasted real, so we were willing to rate it high despite the temperature issue.
