Construction walls have gone up and crews have installed the first elements of a Sleeping Beauty Castle-inspired sculpture coming to the Disneyland Resort esplanade.
70th Anniversary Sculpture Construction
The sculpture, honoring the 70th anniversary of Disneyland Park, will be in the center of the esplanade between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Supports for the sculpture rise about construction walls around the site.
The three yellow supports curve towards each other. According to the concept art below, these are atop a base that is currently hidden by walls. They will attach at the center of the 50-foot sculpture.
The statue will also include colorful glass panels and golden charms representing the five original lands of Disneyland Park.
Other 70th anniversary decorations planned for Disneyland Resort include an updated floral Mickey, colorful banners and bunting, a “Celebrate Happy” sign with Mickey and Minnie, and a “70” medallion on the real Sleeping Beauty Castle.
The Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration begins on May 16 and runs through the summer of 2026. Special entertainment includes the new “World of Color Happiness!” with a Muppets pre-show at Disney California Adventure, a cavalcade featuring Duffy at Disneyland Park, the return of Paint the Night, and the return of “Wondrous Journeys.” Other offerings include MagicBand+ interactivity, a guided tour, the new Key to Disneyland experience, and “it’s a small world” updates.
The park’s actual 70th anniversary is July 17, on which date a new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic show will open at the Main Street Opera House alongside new exhibits.
70th anniversary merchandise has already started to arrive.
