BREAKING: Disney Pushing Back Premiere Dates for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’

In an unexpected move, Disney has officially pushed back the theatrical premiere dates for both “Avengers: Doomsday” and its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

According to a new article from Deadline, Disney has officially pushed back the theatrical release dates for two highly-anticipated movies. “Avengers: Doomsday,” which was originally scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2026, has now been pushed back to December 18, 2026. Likewise, the sequel titled “Avengers: Secret Wars” will also be pushed back from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.

The article by Deadline mentions that the change is not reportedly due to any specific production issues, but to merely give more time for the films to be completed:

Insiders noted that these two films are among the biggest ever made, and the delays simply allow more time to execute on a gargantuan vision. Disney/Marvel elected for December dates, given the success they’ve had in the holiday corridor with titles like Spider-Man: No Way Home. Avengers: Doomsday is in production now.

In a dimly lit room, a person in a suit sits on a director's chair, gesturing for silence with a finger to their lips. The scene feels like an intense moment straight from the production of "Avengers: Doomsday," as they sit before a row of chairs labeled with various names.

“Avengers: Doomsday” is the fifth Avengers film. It’s directed by the Russo Brothers and will include a massive cast list from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During a viral livestream of chairs, Marvel revealed the cast list will include Chris Hemsworth (Thor), the members of the Fantastic Four, Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkhölme / Mystique, Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy / Beast), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto), and many more.

Interestingly, the now-iconic livestream announcement did not include Chris Evans or Hayley Atwell, who were both previously announced to be returning for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Atwell has already been confirmed to reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter, though Marvel has been less forthcoming about Evans. Other MCU mainstays such as Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), and Tom Holland (Spider-Man) were also not mentioned during the cast reveal.

The next installment in the MCU, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” is set to premiere as scheduled on July 25, 2025. The Deadline article does not mention the date for the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” film, so it is still expected to premiere on July 31, 2026, as currently listed.

The most recent Marvel film, “Thunderbolts*” premiered on May 2, and you can read our full film review on our website.
