Crews continue to “fix” the light-up pavement in World Celebration Gardens at EPCOT with screws.
World Celebration Gardens Light-Up Pavement

Issues began with the light-up pavement just days after World Celebration Gardens opened in December 2023. Though the lighting was restored by December 2024, it continued to be an issue. As the light strips became loose, creating trip hazards, some were “fixed” in June with screws drilled into them.

Two sets of stanchions now sit on strips of light to keep guests from tripping over them.

We spotted several more holes in the strips, some with screws and some that have apparently had their screws removed. While most of the screws were painted white in our last update, these appear to be blue for some reason.

Where some of the light strips end near the central planter, it’s easy to see them rising up from the pavement. A screw in the strip on the right isn’t enough to hold it down.

There is also messy and yellow caulking, broken strips, and screws at odd angles that aren’t flush with the strips’ surfaces.
These light strips and the center planter create the EPCOT logo. The lights, when working, also sync with Spaceship Earth light shows.

I find it amazing that it took four years to reimagine this space and they have nothing but issues with these lights. The blue anchor screws really look bad and the small areas blocked off add to the not so great look. With the money generated by the Disney theme parks, you would think the parks would be impeccable. I think this was just not a well thought out design that could withstand that many people walking on it every day. Just bring back the twinkling pavement and the area will not have the constant issues. Just my two cents. And would it have been so hard to add a fountain of some kind in the center planter? Just looks bare.
