Following the last ride of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, construction walls have now gone vertical around the roller coaster’s entrance.
Construction Walls at Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is permanently closed as of Monday, August 18, 2025, after hosting its final day of operation on August 17.
When visiting the Universal Studios Florida on Monday, we spotted that blue construction walls had been erected around the coaster’s entrance.
Unlike the walls that went up earlier this summer around the roller coaster’s “Treble Clef” element at the end of the New York street, these walls bear no Easter eggs to Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and Fast & Furious. Instead, they sport posters for classic Universal films.
We also spotted more walls going back toward the Production building in this area, just beneath the track for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. While it is possible these could be related to the coaster’s closure, they could also be for Halloween Horror Nights, as guests traditionally queue through this area to reach one of the event’s haunted houses.
The coaster’s closure will “make way for a new experience.” Though Universal has not confirmed what that “new experience” will be, rumors indicate it will be a new multi-launch roller coaster from Intamin, which also created Jurassic World VelociCoaster at Universal Islands of Adventure.
Preparations have already begun on construction for the new experience, with land cleared and dirt piles in formation between Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and Hard Rock Cafe.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit was designed by Maurer Söhne and opened at Universal Studios Florida in 2009. It sported a non-inverted loop and a 90-degree angle climb to its launch, creating a shape that was once featured in the Universal Orlando Resort “skyline” before being removed in May 2025. Riders were able to choose their coaster soundtrack from a list of more than 30 songs, before that was whittled down to just five songs in 2023.
