Spaceship Earth Now Closed for Refurbishment

Spaceship Earth in EPCOT is now closed for a previously-announced refurbishment, and the queue for the attraction has been blocked.

Spaceship Earth is closed as of Monday, August 25, and will reopen “later this year,” the Walt Disney World website states. A reopening date is not yet available, and the attraction is listed as closed through at least October 24, which is the furthest date currently available on the operations calendar. Rolling planters now block the entrance to the ride.

We saw Cast Members holding hard hats and orange vests, preparing to enter the attraction. The refurbishment is expected to include routine maintenance and no major changes to Spaceship Earth. Disney filed a permit for “general construction” in July. They began refreshing exterior panels on the back of Spaceship Earth in early August.

Spaceship Earth

Spaceship Earth is a slow-moving Omnimover ride inside the iconic geodesic sphere of EPCOT. The ride takes guests on a journey through the history of human communication, from early cave paintings to the rise of the digital age. It was an opening day attraction, debuting with EPCOT on October 1, 1982. It has gone through multiple major overhauls and was scheduled for another in 2020, but this was delayed and potentially canceled.
