Parade Float Fire Forces Major Change to Paint the Night at Disneyland

Last night, a float in the Paint the Night Parade caught fire during the first performance. The second performance was heavily altered.

A fire broke out on Wednesday evening during the first performance of Paint the Night. The incident affected the Little Mermaid sequence, with the float itself malfunctioning and then catching on fire while making its way through the Hub.

It was taken backstage and tended to, and at the time it appeared no injuries were sustained to performers or guests.

With the second performance scheduled for 10:30 p.m. PT, our reporter stated that the parade was delayed until 11:00 p.m. PT.

The Little Mermaid float was out of commission for obvious reasons, but half the floats and performers were also cut from the parade. Monsters, Inc. and the entire finale were not part of the performance, and the Frozen sequence was the show closer. Olaf was missing from the Frozen float, and the rope dancers followed up behind it.

Most notably, the finale with Mickey and friends was not part of the parade at the second showing. All 8 pinwheel dancers, the 3 ball floats with Donald, Goofy, and Minnie were also cut.

Other cuts include Peter Pan, 3 of the 6 fiber fairies, and 3 of the 6 swan dancers for the princess float.

There were no crew dancers in the Cars sequence, but Lightning McQueen and Mac were present. 6 rodeo dancers for the Toy Story float were not present, which left Jessie solo and walking.
