Though Sprinkles and Disney have made no announcements and hours are still listed for the store through February, dozens of comments on Sprinkles social media posts and on Reddit state the stores are closing suddenly after laying off all employees.

Reports across the internet indicate Sprinkles Cupcakes will be closing all of their stores, including the Disney Springs location, after December 31, 2025.

Instagram comments are limited on the Sprinkles Cupcakes account, but several comments claiming to be from former Sprinkles employees state they have lost their jobs with one day notice. User koko_b93 said, “GAVE ALL EMPLOYEES COMPANY WIDE 1 DAY NOTICE THAT THEY NO LONGER HAVE JOBS! Sprinkles is closing all locations 12/31. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!”

Reddit posts share a similar story. User SheWalksInMoonlight1 said, “Sprinkles Cupcakes location in Scottsdale [Arizona] is closing permanently on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Source is from an employee. I’m not the employee and this information is not online. The company has been struggling for awhile. This is your last chance to buy their products. Do what you want with this information.”

In r/FoodLosAngeles, user 318neb said, “Apparently all locations are shutting down by the new year. Get your final bites in! Also seems like they gave zero notice to their staff”.

Sprinkles’ online ordering system is not allowing any orders for dates after December 31. Though you can select a future date, no times are available.

Known for its cupcake ATM, Sprinkles opened their Disney Springs location in 2016, amid the shopping district’s reimagining. A location also opened in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort but closed in 2023. Called the “world’s first cupcake bakery,” the chain was established in 2005 by Candace Nelson. Nelson sold it to private equity firm KarpReilly in 2013.

Sprinkles Founder Confirms Closure

Sprinkles founder Candace Nelson confirmed the news of the cupcake chain’s closure and shared her sympathies with the affected employees in a post to her Instagram account:

Today is Sprinkles’ final day.

As many of you know, I started Sprinkles in 2005 with a KitchenAid mixer and a big idea. Over the years, we expanded across the country and launched the Cupcake ATM.

I sold Sprinkles in 2012 and have no ownership or operational involvement in the company.

Still, it’s surreal to see this chapter come to a close – and it’s not how I imagined the story would unfold.

I’m deeply grateful to the fans, customers, and community who showed up, celebrated with us, and made Sprinkles part of their traditions – and to the team who made it all happen. I’ll always be proud of what we built.

Today, my heart is with the Sprinkles employees.
