Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland is seeing a lot of construction activity, as crews have poured concrete near Big Thunder Mountain, and construction materials have arrived at the Cars-themed land.
Concrete Poured near Big Thunder Mountain

The temporary wood structure we noticed recently is now gone, and crews have poured concrete in the area where it previously was.
The site looks a lot more crowded with caution tape, temporary wood markers, white paneling sheets, construction cones, and more.
Construction Materials Arrive

Crews have also brought in materials that will be used for the construction of the Cars-themed land, Piston Peak. Piston Peak is located in between Big Thunder Mountain and Haunted Mansion, where the Rivers of America used to be.

There are a lot of vehicles, pallets of wood, a trailer, and other equipment in the area.
Work Continues

The landscape of the area is rapidly changing as crews work to shape the area of the former Rivers of America. This includes both filling and flattening where needed to ensure it’s the same level as the rest of the area.
The new Cars area will replace Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island as part of Frontierland. A new Disney Villains land will also be “beyond” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which remains closed for refurbishment. It’s set to reopen this spring.

During our look at the area on January 8, we also noticed the trains are out on the tracks for this attraction. They have been testing frequently in the past few months.
The construction site for Piston Peak and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom was recently cleared out to make way for the new themed lands.
