Cars Area Construction

A temporary wooden structure has been built near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom, apparently for construction of the new Cars area.

The structure is clearly not permanent. It’s at the edge of some Big Thunder Mountain Railroad rockwork, where the Rivers of America used to be. It may later be covered, providing shelter for crew members or to hide things from guests. At this time, it’s unclear what purpose the structure serves.

There are safety cones, caution tape, and a tool bench near the structure. It faces the former Tom Sawyer Island.

The new Cars area will replace Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island as part of Frontierland. A new Disney Villains land will also be “beyond” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which remains closed for refurbishment. It’s set to reopen this spring.

The construction site for Piston Peak and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom was recently cleared out to make way for the new themed lands.
