The Notice of Commencement contracts Design Communications to “Install signage” at the Tomorrowland ride’s address. Design Communications has also recently created new signage for Test Track, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, and Disney Vacation Club locations.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will reopen this spring with new ride vehicles and blasters, interactive targets, and a new character named Buddy.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Updates

First look: Colorful Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin ride vehicle with wings logo, indoors with two people nearby.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin opened in 1998 but the ride originated as If You Had Wings, which opened at Magic Kingdom in 1972. The ride vehicles in use until last summer were still the 1972 originals. The new vehicles will be a similar shape but with an updated design.

A video screen showcases a futuristic sci-fi game, reminiscent of Buzz Lightyear Blasters. A person grips a green and gray blaster, while others in the background, one wearing a name badge, observe the play-test. Bright colors and digital graphics illuminate the scene vividly.

The new blasters will be handheld instead of mounted and will have an always-on laser to help with aiming, plus lights, sounds, and haptic effects. The “Z” targets will react to the blasters with lighting effects. We got to playtest the blasters and targets.

The robot character Buddy will be part of a new opening scene giving guests a chance to practice their shooting.

The new Magic Kingdom map has an updated description for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
