Disney Preparing to Drain Cinderella Castle Moat

Disney is getting ready to drain part of the moat around Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom to accommodate the castle painting project. With the moat drained, construction vehicles can get closer to the castle.

In the water near Tomorrowland, there is now a dam set up. Tarps are rolled up along the top of the dam structure but will be unfurled when draining begins.

More dams are on the Liberty Square side, closer to the castle, as well as on the Tomorrowland side.

The dams mean Disney doesn’t have to drain all the water in the moat, which encircles the “Hub” in front of the castle.

Repainting of Cinderella Castle began on Thursday and more gray paint has appeared. The project will restore Cinderella Castle’s classic colors after five years.

Due to the painting project, Happily Ever After has been modified, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire is performing only in the afternoons and without pyrotechnics, and Let the Magic Begin is only music.
