On December 30, the show’s giant boulder flew off its track and began bouncing towards the audience. A viral video showed a cast member stepped in its path and was knocked to the ground.

The cast member was identified as Robert Herrick, who has been a cast member at Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular for over 30 years. He was previously a stunt performer and then portrayed the director character. That experience meant he immediately jumped out of his seat to stop the wayward ball.

Herrick rejected the moniker “hero” in an interview with WFTV Channel 9 and said, “My only thought was that thing could reach the audience.”

Two vertebrate in Herrick’s neck were fractured, and he will be in a neck brace for the next eight weeks. Herrick said he loves the show and fellow cast members and is excited to get back to work.

For now, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is being performed without the boulder.

WFTV said they will share more from the interview soon. Watch their first video below.
