After the giant boulder flew off its track on Tuesday and injured a cast member, it has been removed from the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Indiana Jones Stunt Show Changed After Cast Member Injured
On December 30, the giant boulder bounced off its track and flew towards the crowd. A cast member successfully stopped it from hitting guests but was knocked backwards to the ground. He was helped to his feet by other cast members and appeared to be injured.
The injured cast member was identified as former stunt performer Robert. He received six stitches and is recovering in the hospital. Disney’s safety team is investigating the incident.
Though the show went on as scheduled on December 31, it was altered to remove the boulder. The door that hides the boulder never opened after Indy picks up the golden idol. Instead, he acts like he’s knocked backwards by an explosion of fire. Watch the altered performance below:

Pictured above is the boulder when it is part of the show. The boulder is made of rubber, not actual rock, but is still about 400 lbs and can cause serious injury.
We are unsure when the boulder will return to the show.
The boulder is part of the opening scene of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, itself a re-enactment of the opening of Raiders of the Lost Ark, in which Indiana Jones grabs a golden idol and is chased by a rolling boulder. The scene is also referenced in the Indiana Jones Adventure ride at Disneyland. Watch our video of the full show (including the boulder) below:
