Broadway Star Ashley Brown

Ashley Brown was the original Mary Poppins on Broadway and is a common face on the America Gardens Theatre for the Disney on Broadway Concert Series during Festival of the Arts. During her performance on February 13, she teased that Disney might be working on a Tangled adaptation for the Broadway stage. You can see her tease the production and perform “When Will My Life Begin” in this YouTube clip from The Concrete Wanderer:

Brown is set to appear at the festival on February 15, 16, and 19th. She will also appear for the grand finale alongside Ainsley Melham (Aladdin), Susan Egan (Beauty and the Beast), James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin), and Kyra Belle Johnson (Beauty and the Beast North American Tour).

Tangled

In 2024, it was supposedly confirmed that Disney on Broadway was developing a Tangled stage adaptation, although not much has been revealed since then, and Disney has not officially announced the show.

Tangled is Disney’s animated adaptation of the Rapunzel story by the Brothers Grimm. It was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard from a screenplay by Dan Fogelman. It stars Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel. In 2012, Disney released a short film sequel called Tangled Ever After. In 2017, Tangled: Before Ever After, a short film set between the events of Tangled and Tangled Ever After, premiered on Disney Channel.

A live-action version of the film is currently in production with Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively. The live-action version of Tangled has had a fittingly, well, tangled journey to production. We first reported on the development of a live-action Tangled remake in 2020, ten years after the original film’s release, and it was announced in December 2024 as being in development with The Greatest Showman film director Michael Gracey.

The project was then placed on “indefinite hold” in April 2025 following the disappointing performance of the live-action Snow White film, but resumed production in October 2025after the blockbuster live-action Lilo & Stitch. Gracey is still attached to direct, and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is still writing the script.

Tangled: The Musical is a one-hour stage show on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Magic featuring three new songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, who respectively wrote the music and lyrics for the original Disney film.  Disney Cruise Line had a “virtual viewing” of Tangled: The Musical in 2020, which is available to watch below.
