Construction lifts are now parked in the Magic Kingdom moat for crews to repaint Cinderella Castle. The repainting project to restore the castle’s original color scheme began in late January. Moat draining began in early February.

Several boom lifts are parked in the empty moat right next to the castle on the Liberty Square side. There is also a scaffolding platform and stairs to make it easier for crew members to get to the lifts. Though painting has been underway for a month, construction vehicles have not been visible to guests until now.

Another pair of lifts are next to the castle on the Tomorrowland side.

The boom lifts are necessary for the repainting of the bottom half of the castle. So far, crews have been focused on the top half. Though the bottom half has always been gray, it was a different shade prior to the 50th anniversary painting.

We also saw horticulture cast members working near the moat on the Tomorrowland side of the castle. Following two bouts of freezing weather, Disney has been restoring damaged plants.

Meanwhile, the top half of the back of the castle is nearly completely painted. At first glance, it looks like it has been fully painted gray.

However, there are two remaining sections of pink — the tallest tower and a wall near the center of the towers.

Most of the gold trim has been painted gray. There has always been some gold on the castle, just not as much as there was with the 50th anniversary color scheme. The royal blue roofs will also be painted a lighter blue.

For reference, pictured above is the castle on Wednesday, February 25. Below is the castle in 2019 with its original color scheme next to the castle in 2021 after it was painted for the 50th anniversary.
