Foundations Take Shape for Piston Peak at Magic Kingdom

Foundations are growing in the Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park area of Magic Kingdom. This extension of Frontierland replaces the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.

We got another look at the foundational work near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. In the center of the above photo is the foundation outlined with wood forms.

This area is different than the foundation work in the center of bioreconstruct’s aerial photos last month, above, near Big Thunder Mountain (upper left), but we believe it is an extension of it.

This new section, over by the Frontierland boardwalk — which is open but surrounded by walls and scaffolding, is either another set of wooden forms and rebar, or a continuation of the one mentioned above near Big Thunder Mountain. From our allowed vantage points, we cannot see if they connect. Since our last update, crews have continued to extend the forms heading towards Liberty Square. The area in the foreground already has rebar.

Both foundations could be part of the same large building seen in the utilities document above, the curved building near the bottom of the image.

In the Piston Peak National Park “fun map,” that building appears to be the one in the upper center, in front of (or part of) the gray rockwork.

It is also possible the foundation work is related to the river that will curve around half of the Cars area, in front of the Frontierland boardwalk or we could be looking at the foundation for the ride track itself.
