Cinderella Castle Painting Continues with Tallest Tower at Magic Kingdom

The painting of the tallest tower of Cinderella Castle continues at Magic Kingdom. As we saw on Friday and Monday, crew members in boom lifts are working on the castle during the early hours of the park’s opening.

There were several crew members working in lifts on Thursday morning, March 5. The castle moat was drained last month to accommodate the construction vehicles. A pair of crew members in the highest lift were working on the tallest tower.

Much of the tower’s gold trim has now been painted light gray. Painting has not begun on the balcony Tinker Bell flies from during the Happily Ever After fireworks each evening. Though Tink flies late at night and painting is taking place in the mornings, crews may wait to work on the balcony to ensure no equipment is in her way.

Another crew member in a second lift was working on the trimming further down the tower. Though the spire at the very top of the tower has always been gold, the rest of the trim was also painted gold as part of the castle’s 50th anniversary makeover.

Most of the west side of the castle is now gray, but there are still a few pink walls, though it appears work has moved to painting the walls adjacent to the front. The pink, like the gold, was added during the 50th anniversary. The castle’s original gray and blue color scheme is being restored.

The current royal blue roofing is expected to be replaced by a lighter blue closer to the original color.

As we previously reported, the back of the castle is mostly gray now. Only the pink on the tallest tower is still visible. We don’t know if any of the remaining gold will also be painted over.

The northern half is all gray, while progress is now visible on the southern half, as some pink has disappeared since Monday.

For reference, below is the castle in 2019 with its original color scheme and in 2021 after it was painted for the park’s 50th anniversary.
