Crews have started to demolish the top of a brick column at the entrance of the former Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, preparing to give it Monsters, Inc.-inspired decorations.
Monstropolis Entrance Construction

The courtyard is being transformed into Monstropolis and every structure will get monstrous elements. The brickwork and trim from the top of this entrance column has been broken off overnight. We don’t expect the column to be completely demolished, but concept art shows it with a new statue.

The other column remains intact. The wall in this area was actually knocked down and reconstructed in 2023 for construction of Ice Cold Hydraulics just outside the courtyard in Grand Avenue.

Concept art on the construction walls shows what the updated entrance will look like.

Concept art indicates the walls between columns will be completely removed. The taller columns — the ones visible over construction walls — will be topped with winged statues. There also appear to be new plaques on the front of the columns.
The statues appear similar to those at the Monsters University entrance as seen in the prequel film. Though the theme park area will not be set at Monsters University, Disney may still be taking inspiration from the university architecture for the land’s design.
More Monstropolis Construction

In the courtyard, plastic sheets now cover parts of the Gonzo’s Royal Flush facade. This houses the land’s restrooms and will be re-themed to Monstropolis.

The plastic sheets cover areas where brickwork was fully removed. We can see through the plastic to—there is metal framing and insulation.

We haven’t seen much work on the facade of the MuppetVision 3D theater, which will become “The Glob” and house a new theatrical experience. Brickwork was removed in the shape of a new marquee and there are some plastic sheets covering exposed infrastructure.
Disney recently filed a permit for set installation at the theater.

Parked in front of the theater, just behind the entrance columns, are two excavators. As we’ve seen in aerial photos, the land’s pavement has all been torn away. Concept art shows new scale-inspired pavement.
There are now white sheets on a domed structure behind the theater facade, covering two spots where vent elements were removed.

On Wednesday morning, March 18, some crew members were working on the stripped firehouse facade near the back of the courtyard. It looks like some fresh new paneling has been installed on the facade, but there is no new theming yet.

Around the corner, another facade next to Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano was stripped and covered in a plastic sheet. As for the actual restaurant, most of its fake windows are now covered with white sheets. Some of the cornice around the roof has been torn away, leaving metal framework visible.

The restaurant will be transformed into Harryhausen’s, which has an entirely different design.
At the back of Monstropolis will be the brand-new Monsters, Inc. door roller-coaster, Disney’s first suspended and vertical lift coaster. Meanwhile, the Muppets are moving across the park to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
