A new video from Disney Parks gives fans a look inside the renovated Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom, including the handheld blasters, interactive targets, and updated scoring system.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Updates

As we’ve seen, the new blasters are handheld with a cord attaching them to the vehicle. Each vehicle has a green blaster and a red blaster. They light up when shooting a target.

The vehicles are brand-new and while this video doesn’t offer a clear look at the exterior, it does give us our first look at the interior. The digital screens show guests their current score. There are also various icons, possibly representing different achievements. The joystick to spin the vehicle is in the center of the console and there are handrails below the screens.

Previously, the maximum score was 999,999. Now scores can go to infinity and beyond. Disney has updated the ranking system and names:
- +1,000,000 | Galactic Hero
- 600,001 – 999,999 | Cosmic Commander
- 300,001 – 600,000 | Space Ace
- 100,001 – 300,000 | Planetary Pilot
- 10,001 – 100,000 | Astro Aviator
- 1,001 – 10,000 | Solar Navigator
- 0 – 1,000 | Star Flyer
We first saw the Astro Aviator rank in the new on-ride photo. This replaces Ranger 1st Class. Solar Navigator replaces Space Scout and Star Flyer replaces Star Cadet.
The scoreboard at the end also now lists the ranks from highest to lowest instead of the other way around.

The video also shows the interactive targets lighting up in various ways, plus the training robot Buddy in the ride’s new opening scene. As the video reminds us, some targets are worth more, so riders should keep an eye out for targets that look different than the others.
