Animation Courtyard construction walls have shifted, and crew members are working on the new marquee for The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

On Wednesday morning, several crew members were on the overhang above the building’s main entrance. Eventually, this will feature a giant sorcerer’s hat, inspired by the real-life Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California. It looks like they have installed some foundational elements for the hat.

Small support elements above the overhang have been removed and smoothed over with concrete.

As Star Wars Launch Bay, the building’s overhang only held a large sign. The original version of The Magic of Disney Animation featured a Sorcerer Mickey statue on a pillar along with a sign.

Ventilation panels to the sides of the marquee have been fully painted green. The rest of the building was painted shades of beige and peach pink.

Disney Junior Theater

Crews have taped plastic sheets over a door on the Disney Junior theater. This is likely to protect it from paintwork.

The new Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! stage show will open at the theater on May 26. Disney has not announced an opening date for The Magic of Disney Animation.

Construction Walls Moved

Early in the morning, we noticed these rolling planters blocking the walkway outside The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, which continues to operate despite the nearby construction. However, the theater entrance and outdoor gift shop were inaccessible until about 10 a.m. (the first show is at 11:10 a.m.).

Cast members then moved the rolling planters, and we got a better idea of how the walls have moved. They were shifted further into the courtyard, and new walls now block part of the pathway directly next to the building.

Now guests exiting the theater have to walk between two sets of walls to get out of the courtyard or directly through the gift shop.

The new wall configuration may be so that the pavement in front of the theater can be replaced to match the rest of the courtyard’s new pavement. Much of the courtyard was torn up and repaved. New planters were created, and fresh trees were planted.

The gift shop opened at 10 a.m. It’s almost completely enclosed by construction walls, but guests can access it next to the theater entrance or exit.

Animation Courtyard will reopen this summer, reimagined as The Walt Disney Studios lot.
