Reimagining work continues at Animation Courtyard as painting and a new marquee transform the former Star Wars Launch Bay into The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Last week, we saw crews working on the marquee at the upcoming Magic of Disney Animation building. The bare marquee is taped off on the top and bottom, and it appears that painting or patching has recently taken place on the face of the marquee. Based on the concept art (shown at the bottom of this article), the marquee will eventually be silver.

Eventually, this marquee will feature a giant sorcerer’s hat, inspired by the real-life Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California. Based on the curved appearance of the material held by the construction worker seen above, the base structure of the hat may soon be installed.

In the above photo, we can see the marquee patchwork a little more clearly.

We also spotted some red vertical stripes being painted on a nearby building. As you can see in the concept art below, this striping pattern will continue on both sides of the Sorcerer Mickey hat.

Animation Courtyard will reopen this summer, reimagined as The Walt Disney Studios lot. Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! and consequently the refreshed studio-inspired courtyard will open on May 26. Disney has not announced an opening date for The Magic of Disney Animation. The attraction will include six new meet and greets, an art class hosted by Olaf (instead of live artists), and a playground inspired by Mary Blair’s Alice in Wonderland concept art.
