Soon, we’ll see a Maya temple in Disney’s Animal Kingdom instead of The Dino Institute. Crews have installed a steel frame for the temple facade in front of the former DINOSAUR entrance. Inside, the ride — which already had a nearly identical ride track to Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland — is being transformed into a new Indiana Jones attraction.
Maya Temple Framework
Aerial photographer bioreconstruct shared these photos of the first framing for the facade in place. The framing isn’t complete, as concept art indicates it will almost completely cover the Dino Institute facade. Any parts of the facade still visible will be repainted and rethemed.
Around the steel frame and a few yards in front of it are small square supports. A crew member appeared to be working on one of these while bio was taking photos.

The DINOSAUR marquee was removed last month. The Aladar statue, reflecting pools, and planters that were once directly in front of the building were removed in February, along with the Dino-Sue T. rex fossil replica.

Tropical Americas replaces DinoLand U.S.A. In addition to the Indiana Jones ride, it will have a new Encanto ride, a wood-carved carousel, and a playground. Restaurantosaurus will become a hacienda restaurant. The Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures buildings will also be reused.
Though the ride track will be similar, the Animal Kingdom Indiana Jones ride will have a distinct story from the existing Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea rides. Indy has heard stories of a mythical creature in the Maya temple and is looking to get to the bottom of what’s awaiting there.
Tropical Americas is scheduled to open in 2027.
