After sharing a variety of secrets and stories about Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway earlier this year, Imagineering shared a follow-up video with a few more details about the attraction.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Secrets

In the WED Walks deleted scenes, Imagineers pointed out a few Easter eggs in the ride’s city scene. For example, a building is called “Iwerks & Uwerks Water Works,” named after Disney Legends Ub and Don Iwerks.

Another building is the 1401 Flower Shop. This is a reference to the Imagineering headquarters in Glendale, CA, located at 1401 Flower St.
When guests get caught up in a tornado at the carnival, Imagineers had to figure out how to incorporate wind without loud fans. They worked with an air conditioning company to install fans in the ceiling that wouldn’t overpower the audio of the scene.

The Imagineers also discussed “Happy Color” again. As described in the first WED Walks video, the “Happy Colors” are specific shades of gray that the scenery is projected onto. The right shades of gray were especially important for the climactic factory scene, which begins in warm tones of red then transitions into a cool blue scene.
In the finale, they highlighted how that “Happy Color,” projections, blacklight props, and lighting all come together to create a seamless scene.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it replaced the Great Movie Ride.
