Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Guitar Repainting to Start Soon as Preparation Appears Nearly Complete

Crews have continued to prepare the giant Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster guitar at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a new paint job inspired by the Muppets.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith closed permanently on March 1. The 40-foot-tall Fender Stratocaster was blocked by scrim, scaffolding, and construction walls over the following weeks. Despite this, we can see some parts of the guitar through and around the scrim.

After some of the red appeared to have been sanded a few days ago, most of the visible parts of the guitar have now received significant additional white marks on the previously shiny surface. This is the result of heavier sanding, which will make it easier for new paint to stick to the surface. In addition to the sanding marks, there are also several larger white patches of white filler to smooth out imperfections in the surface.

The sanded spots are particularly visible on the side and back of the guitar. They can also be made out behind the scrim.

Though the guitar’s base color will still be red, concept art (below) for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets shows additional psychedelic elements. There will be colorful swirls and stars across the body.

People gather at night in front of the brightly lit Rock 'n' Roller Coaster guitar at a theme park attraction.

One of the piano keys in the flowerbed below the guitar will also be painted gold, inspired by Dr. Teeth’s gold tooth.

Finishing touches have been added to the upside-down car at the other end of the guitar’s neck. Furthermore, the covers of the tail lights appear to have been removed when our reporter visited this morning.

Dr. Teeth leads Muppet band the Electric Mayhem, who will take center stage in the reimagined attraction. Kermit, Miss Piggy, Scooter, and penguins will also appear in the pre-show.

An opening date has not been announced but Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is set to debut this summer — potentially for Memorial Day weekend in late May.
